Problems with virtual memory and registry

can anyone help, I'm working on a friends computer running XP home with 128Mb RAM, following serious virus problem, have reinstalled XP but there is a problem with virtual memory it keeps resetting to 0Mb, I've tried resetting it via control panel etc but it keeps resetting to 0. Does anyone know where to find the registry setting that controls this or do you know any other way of sorting this out.

Some info on this Microsoft weblink
click here I think, however, that this PC has too little RAM at 128MB for XP to work
really well. Your friend should consider doubling
this to 256MB. Memory is very cheap at present and
one of the better ways to upgrade.
