problems from standby

when resuming from standby computer shutsdown any ideas please iam using xp home

If so,is it possible that the battery life may have expired during the "standby" and "hibernate" modes?

Hmm, could be a bad sector on your hard drive, perhaps if you run CHKDSK it might find/fix. Or could be a memory stick problem, check memory stick(s), properly seated in slot(s) - also check for dust/dirt inside case, especially around fans/memory sticks and CPU.

technotiger is was running chkdsk at the time of the post and this seems to have cured the problem thanks for for help
