When you say the PC was in a state before, did it use to freeze etc.? I've seen similar problems where the memory is faulty. If you have more than one memory module you could try the reinstall with just one module fitted at at time.
the initial problem is that the pc had a lot of stuff on it that was old unused and slowing it up then it wouldnt shut down properly on closing it down the power was still on i.e just logging off not powering down and the power button wouldnt switch this off either however its not the button or the board so i decided to do this i do have 2 sticks in ill try 1 at a time.....however it has just gone further than before and has now stoped at 32 minutes 'installing network'
