Problems with recording, might be hardware problems?

Hi I have some problems getting my microphone to work. My computer can register/see my microphone, but it wont record anything. This problem is when my microphone is connected both analog and digital via usb. I have tried some different things without success, like updating software and drivers. I am running on windows 8.1.

Does anyone know about a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Open the properties of your sound card and check that the microphone is selected and not the line in.

Or it could be the old nut of not having 'stereo mix' or 'what-u-hear' included in your audio driver.

I don't think that is the problem. The microphone source is selected as default, and line in is disabled. The really weird thing is that when i open my sound settings and change between muting my microphone and not, the bar showing if its recording is lighting up (and if i record it i get static when doing so).

I could also mention that it worked in the beginning, and that the computer is self-build.
