Problems installing windows xp home

i want to format my hard drive and do a clean install of windows xp, however when i have inserted the disk and rebooted, i get some weird bios thing. so when i type d:\setup.exe it says the application can not run in dos.
Anyway when i say i want to do a clean install ( this is when i am logged into my user and the xp splash screen comes up). it tells me that it is rebooting

However when i get to the bit about partitions ect i have unpartitioned space of 8 mb, but i want to format the used area of 19gb and when i press d for delete i get the message

"setup can not continue as this area contains temporary setup files" something like that anyway.

So at the moment i can not do anything so i would be happy is someone could help me out. in finding away of how i could get them setup files to the 8mb space so i can format the 19gb

I've had this problem numerous times, so resorted to a full format.
I now use this click here
then perform a completely clean install. Worked every time (so far).

Did you have the same problem in which you could not install on boot. the only way i can install is by being logged onto to windows.

Any suggestions
