Problems with CD rewriter

I have a HP laptop and a Freecom external CD rewriter. Over the last few days I have had trouble recording CD's. They seem to work ok but during playback certain tracks stop playing mid track. They dont work on any CD player.
I dont know if the rewriter is on the way out, Ive only had it a year and have burnt about 150 CD's. The other thing it might be is the CD's. I use the cheap and cheerful ones from DABS.com
They only cost ?10 for 50. Dunno if Ive got a dodgy batch?
Anyone else had similar problems or can offer advice?

A simple thing to try first is to clean the CD writers lens. A cheap CD cleaner that has the small redish brush on will clean it for you.

I burn many cd's and have had similar problems. Firstly don't buy cheap and cheerful. I buy JVC cdr 80's and philips and have never yet had any compatability problems. As far as your cd rewriter is concerned sometimes they only last a year. I am on my third. You can get discounted high quality cds from pricebuster on the net.
