Is this click here your Laptop.

It says "Sony's NEC Optiarc optical drive AD-7560A handles all standard DVD formats including DVD RAM, but it is rather noisy when active."

DVD+/-RW upto 6x & DVD-RAM.

Found this, Don't know if it will work though, SuperMulti Drive Firmware AD-7560A - DS03 click here For a Sony Vaio Laptop.

Have you tried Acer Support?
