OK, This is going to take some explaining so here goes,I recently fitted a new sata hdd to my machine and set it up with 2 partions, 1 to be used for backups etc. I then copyied my stuff across from the original ide drive. Stupidly, that ide hdd was then formatted for use in another machine.2 weeks later the sata drive refused to boot up, no safe mode, nothing which I think was virus related. So after a bit of head scratching I used the hdd software utility to copy the whole backup partion on to another drive & rescued my files, or so i thought!I have now found that all of the files have been encrypted by the account on the orignal sata drive?.They were not encrypted originally so I am at a loss to explain what has happened.Does anyone know to to defeat the xp encryption? or a way to open these files & save as something else?
What O/S was on the SATA drive?
xp pro was the operation system for everything.not sure how to take ownership but they have the encrypted box ticked in the file proporties
