Problem with virginmedia.com email address

People tell me my address is rejected when they send to it.
Now I got this message when I tried to send an email from it:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'ACC SW', Server: 'smtp.virginmedia.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Any ideas?

Several questions:
Which e-mail client are you using Outlook Express, Outlook, Live Mail or Thunderbird for example.
Is your ISP Virgin and if so are you a cable or adsl customer?

I use Outlook Express 6. I am an ADSL customer ("national").

I thought Virgin through ADSL was virgin.net not virgin.com that is what my sisters is through the phone line.

Double check your e-mail settings see click here and in particular the port.

Can you access the webmail?

If mail is rejected when someone sends to it this may also indicate that there is something wrong with the account itself so check webmail and if that does not work contact Virgin.

First I would try disabling the Secure (SSL) feature.

Wrong port for outgoing. Set now to correct and appears to work.
