Problem switching on my computer

I am having intermmitent problems swithcing on my computer. When I press the 'on' button I get a high pitch buzzing/ringing tone (alarm?). The only way to stop it is to turn the machine off at the plug socket. If I leave it for an hour or so and try again the problem seems to dissappear! Any clues?

Sounds like a faulty switch, try getting some switch cleaner in to it

The noise you are getting is it a beep sound?
If so does windows actually load or does the beep sound happen before windows loads.
It could be anything really. A key stuck on the keyboard, poss CPU fan working intermittantly,
Or it could be a problem with the bios.
Another thing might cause it is a defective speaker in your machine.

Dr Lecter
The noise is a continuous'beep' and Windows does not load. The only thing that will stop the noise is 'pulling the plug'.
