Dear All,

I have recently replaced a cdrw drive in my pc running windows XP.
Nowadays when we start up the PC it halts before the windows login screen with the error "Drive not ready - System halted".
We have to press the reset button a few times repeating the process above before we can finally get to and log into windows.
Any help/suggestions as ever would be appreciated.

Check that the power cable is pushed in fully as is the IDE connector.

Try booting into the bios/setup and Enable Reset Configuration Data (Force Update ESCD)and reboot (it will automatically be reset to disabled).

Thasnk all for your help, I've taken the whole pc to bits and reassembled it and also made some adjustments to the BIOS. Seems to be fine now.
