Problem renaming files

Hi, When I attempt to change a file name or rename a photo etc, I get a window pop up telling me renaming may make the file unusable... and guess what? It does.

I want to rename photos that I download from my camera and songs that I copy onto my computer from cds. I never had a problem doing it before. I don't know why my machine has started doing this.

Please help. This is very frustrating.

I do not know what software package you are using, however I suggest use EXPORT and then the photo will be saved in the format you request.

I'm using Windows XP sp2. All the files I want to rename are in 'my documents', in various files I've created. Even when I right click and use 'rename' on the drop down menu, I still get the box telling me it may become unusable.

hi try
start /all programs/accs/explorer/tools/folder options/view/tick box show hidden files and folders/exit
right click on file and rename
see if that works

Thanks Moorie. That's done it. I can rename when showing all files. Thanks a lot.
