Hi, I have a Dell Inspirion 1000 laptop, 6 years old and I want to re-install windows, I have looked in the manual where it tells you how to do it, however the first step which is re-start and press ctrl and F11 at the same time just before windows starts up is not working, I have tried many, may times so I know it's not me doing it wrong??.....I have done this opration on other computers that I have had in the past with no problem, but I just cant get this one to work, any suggestions?? Thanks....

It probably means the recovery partition is corrupted.

Have you looked in Disk Management for 3 partitions, the main one (drive C) and 2 unlettered drives, one several GB in size and a smaller one?

Are you absolutely certain that you need to press CTRL? Could it be just F11?
