Problem with Power Point.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium With Microsoft Office installed.I have in the past had various Power Point slide shows sent me by friends and have viewed them no problem on Power point.I have recently had a couple of slide shows sent by the same friend but when I try to open it I am now getting the message"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the set associations Control Panel"I understand how to get to the set ass. panel but am not sure what I need to do.As far as I can see the file sent me is a PPS file which as I understand it should open OK.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a way I can check out my Power point in case the one sent me is the problem.
