I've bought a second hand PC and I'm trying to install wndows xp but i've got a problem. i can't get it to boot from my xp cd and so it won't let me load it. from what i can tell the drives have been formatted and there is no operating system loaded. i can't even get into the bios to change where the pc boots from. HELP!!!!

What happens when you turn on the PC?

What is the spec?

it comes up with no system disk.

its amd 2400+, 512mb ram, 80gb hard drive. It has an xp sticker on it and i assume it came with, its just been messed up by the geezer i bought it from - might explain why it was cheap!!

did you buy a new version of windows then, or did the man you bought it have any restore cds with it ?

  hockeystar1985 13:39 22 Jul 2006

it came with an xp recovery disk although i do have my own xp disk that i bought.

quote me if im wrong but i dont think the recovery disc will work if the drive has been formatted. which version of windows have you got is it upgrade version oem or full retail version, aslo wondering why the drive has been formated was this done before you got it ,or have you done it

I would probably agree. it was formatted when i got it, not sure why. there's nothing installed whatsoever but i do have the full retail version i just can't get the pc to read the cd-rom drive.

Do you get a message like "press del to enter setup" or the like?

What brand is it? Some display a logo until the bootup process kicks in.
