Problem installing Win 2000

  Mac586 23:26 22 Sep 2006

I have tried numerous times to do a fresh install of Win 2000 on a 300 gig hardrive. I made 4 partitions, each less than one gig, formatted (in both ntfs and fat 32) and no matter what, when the program gets to the install page, it shows the 4 partitions, says each is unformatted or damaged, and then says it will format a partition of 131070 mb, which is not there. I used Maxblast 4 to do the partitions and formatting, a regular win98se disk to fdisk and setup, but as I sad, it always catches at the startup screen with the ssame thing I wrote above about the partitions. Ant advice would really be appreciated.

PS In between my attempts to install 2000 on the drive, I test installed Xp, 98se, and Vista Beta. All worked fine. And I have installed the win2000 on 2 other machines with 60 and 80 gig hds.

In this thread it says the maximum capacity for Windows 2000 is 127GB, this seems to make sense since your 60gb and 80gb drives work fine. I'm no expert on Windows 2000, and I'm only browsing, but that looks like the answer to me.

Hope it helps.

P.s its about half way down the page

Hi Jake

I read that (and thanks for the link) but I am thinking it is a max of 127 gb per partition. Still trying to get it to work.

Thanks again
