Problem installing psc605 soundcard

  pcrookie 16:29 28 Dec 2003

my computer runs Me has amd 850mhz 128 mb ram on a msi6378 motherboard with ac'97 on board sound. i recently bought a driving sim game but got no sound from the game except the flourish over the manufacturer's logo and a .wav file test. having tried to update the drivers for the ac'97 with little success i was recommended a philips psc605 sonic edge card.
no matter what method i use to try to install the card i continue to get a "card not installed" message. the process seems to be going well as it detects the new hardware(the psc605) and starts installing the drivers and then for some unknown reason the connection manager box pops up. this i cancel as i'm not told to ecpect this. the joystick gameport is then detected and the drivers start installing and then the "card not installed" message appears.
i have tried disabling the onboard sound from bios and also disabled the audio codec jumper as directed but no joy.
can anybody out there help?
