problem deleting files & folders

  Ray5776 17:04 19 Apr 2008

Hi, everyone,
I am trying to delete some files and folders that I loaded on from a DVD.
I get messages:
Access is denied
Not responding
Cannot access source.

I can delete some of the files but the PC says deleting from drive E when the files are on the C drive.

When the progress bar says 25secs this takes about 25mins.

Using a pent4 2.8 dual processor on XP Pro.

Any help on this please as I dont want to spend days just getting rid of crud.

I presume drive E: is your DVD drive? Is the DVD still in the drive?

If the PC is trying to delete the files from this drive, is it possible that, when you chose the files for deletion, you inadvertently selected them on the DVD instead of your hard drive?

I agree with MAT ALAN. I have used the Unlocker program for a good few years and it has worked for me everytime its a great little program.

thanks everyone,
I have used unlocker in the past and it is good, so just got the latest version thanks to your link Mat.
That should sort the access denied bit.
Now running delete again, still says it is deleting from E which is the DVD drive (no disc in it) and it does seem to be deleting files but taking forever, it says 2mins to delete and the progress bar does not move one section after 15mins.

Just a point,
I am trying to delete these files from the "search" window.

Big trouble here by the look of it.
Files were originally taken from a DVD so max size 4.7g.
They are now duplicating themselves and at present taking up about 120g of my hdd, this is no doubt why the machine is taking so long to delete them.
I do of course have anti virus which should run automatically, need to check this out now.

Running the AV now manually, may take a while, will report back with results,

thanks ray
