Problem connecting new laptop to network

  TheWhiteWiltord 19:36 19 Jan 2007

Hi there. I hope someone can help.

I've got a new laptop (running on XP Pro with NIS'06) which I've plugged into the main home-office PC (running on XP Pro with ZoneAlarm Security Suite) via ethernet connection and run the Network Setup Wizard. This has enabled me to access the Internet (which is through a Netgear router). However, I am unable to access the printer and files on this PC, as I did before on my desktop PC.

I would be very grateful if someone in the know can offer some pointers please.

Many thanks.

Why plug the laptop into the PC where you will be relying on the PC to be swithched on to access the internet when you can plug it into the router direct.

Your problem with not being able to share printer is proberbly down to the firewall on the PC not allowing it, check the firewall logs to see if it was blocking.

Thanks Strawballs. A few more hours fiddling with the firewall settings has fixed things!
