Problem with booting Windows 2000

When I try to boot up Windows 2000, as the little blue tracker is about half-way across its track, the machine blue screens and shows the following message: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xEB81F84C,0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

The problem started when I installed Adobe Acrobat Capture Cluster. A box appeared on the screen saying that some files were incorrect. As I had done with Windows 98 before, I decided to install Windows 2000 over the top of itself using the Upgrade option in the hope that this would insert the correct files in the system. When I booted up next I got the STOP message above
and my computer has not worked since on Windows 2k.

Using the Emergency Console facility on the Windows 2000 CD, I chkdsk-ed the drive to no avail. I then tried fixboot c: and fixmbr but the same problem is still there.

If anyone can offer me any help not involving completely reformatting the drive, I shall be extremely grateful.

Alasdair Baxter.

I have tried all the Microsoft Knowledge Base material but to no avail. How can I find out what the parameters in brackets mean?
