Problem booting up after installing new CPU

So yesterday I began changing out my i5 processor to put in an i7 3770k in my Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard. However, when I tried to boot up, it would power down and then back up again. It's now doing this constantly when I try to power up. I noticed afterwards that a pin on the 1155 socket had broken, could this be the cause? I also did not use any thermal compound. I have an 800w PSU so i ruled that out as well.

Hi there well a broken pin on the cpu socket probably means a new motherboard, and not using any thermal compound on the cpu will cause it to overheat virtually instantly even with a cpu cooler installed. Hopefully you haven't damaged the CPU, not sure but think the i7 has thermal protection.

Have to ask what on earth you were thinking when installing a cpu without thermal compound?
