Problem accessing external USB hard drive

My girlfriends laptop broke so I decided to connect it via USB to my laptop to run a file recovery program and recover her files. The problem I have is that in File Explorer it is shown as drive F and there is a partition showing as drive G. F is giving no information about size and when I try to right click on it everything crashes.

I am trying to do a chkdsk on it but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

I am running Windows 10 if that helps at all....

PLEASE HELP!

Look in disk management and tell us what you see there.

DO NOT FORMAT any of the partitions.

Do not connect two laptops via a standard USB connection. You need a special bridging connection to do this:
