Windows 98 SE - 3 weeks old. Not much installed other than Office 2000.Installed Epson C62 printer - used latest drivers from website.Printing in Word, Excel, Notepad - fine.Printing from IE5.5 SP2 causes the system to lock and freeze after the first 4-5 passes of the printer head. NTLWorld DUN AccountNo error messagesMouse and keybaord lockedPrinter stopsAVG 6 Installed and updated - cleanRun AdAware and Spybot - cleanInstalled Patch from MS something like "Windows Stops Responding When Navigation Buttons pressed with Sounds Enabled" - Not fixed.Disabled all startups (AV, NTL GEARBOX, STIMON, EPSON STATUS MONITOR etc etc) No diffeence...Absolutely exasperated.
Any yellows in device manager? Also try running system file checker. In days when I used Epsoms I sometimes had to TOTAL (no remaining files anywhere)uninstall a couple of times before it kickstarted.
Nope no yellows.Done SFC three times - no change.
Upgrade it to IE6?
Tried this it made no difference. We removed it becuase of the claim by NTL that IE6 is not designed for Windows 98 to help prevent any futher problems with NTL support.I'll try MichelleC's advise and go for a total reg clean and file sweep then reinstall...
Definately upgrade to ie6 With latest sp
Tried it with IE6 SP2. Didn't work then rolled back to IE5.5 Sp2 as per above.
When it locks can you Ctrl,Alt,Dlt and 'kill' printer prog? Tried running sfc?
As above - "Done SFC three times - no change"No everything is locked. No disk activity, printer stops, PC stops, everything just freezes... No "Three Fingered Salute" - Ctrl,Alt,Dlt Just a press of the reset button on the case...
No solution yet but we've nailed it down to this. When printing in ANY application (Word, IE, Outlook etc) if there is an activate Internet connection open then the PC locks.Else it prints fine. You can even open a page online, then go offline and then it prints ok.Its going back to the shop.
