hello, my brother has an epson R220 printer, last week it came up with the message :- parts need maintainance/replacing, now when he turns it on, 2 buttons flash on and off and is unable to print/do anything. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in anticipation.

It means the waste ink pads are saturated.

It will need to go to an Epson repairer to be reset.

My local Epson repair centre charges a flat fee of £15.

Find out where yours is:

I have two R220 printers and both have been modified so that the waste ink comes out the back of the printer into a separate container. The waste ink pads do not get used.

Once you have it working again you can effect the modification by following these instructions:

Apart from the points mentioned by pj123, it may be worthwhile keeping the printer switched on permanently.

I do this with my Epson R300 and it avoids the printer going through the cleaning routine each time it's switched on.
