Printer Sharing & Kaspersky

  JayDay 17:06 02 Aug 2008

Since installing Kaspersky Internet Security 8 I have lost printer sharing. I am assuming it's to do with Kaspersky's firewall but just can't work out how to solve the problem. A trawl of Google hasn't helped although it does seem to be a common problem.

Any ideas?

I'm using Vista

How did you install KIS?

If you installed kis in Automatic mode, but want to get into Interactive mode do not despair, go into Settings>Protection and uncheck "Select action automatically" then click APPLY

This should give you a pop up which asks if you want to allow or disallow. Then try printer sharing.

You also need to set up the Local Network which enables File and Printer Sharing click here Scroll to near the bottom in the section headed Firewall

Thanks Ditch999 but it's totally over my head. It seems a bloody complicated to do something that is fairly common.

If you can get to the Network tab as per my previous post then put your local network in to the Status: Local

Go to the networks tab in the firewall settings and set that network to local or trusted (if it's on public)

Thanks, it was local I've changed it to trusted, see what happens.

You might have to shut down KIS then start it again for it to take effect

Failing that you need to open the following ports

137 UDP for NetBIOS name resolution
138 UDP for enabling NetBIOS Datagram transmission and reception
139 TCP for Used for enabling NetBIOS session Service
445 TCP for enabling Server Message Block transmission and reception
via Named Pipes

If you need to call this rule something "File and Printer Sharing" would cover it
