My printer dropped about 6 a4 sheets into the carrige , now when i try to print im getting loud whirring and clicking, and the carrige does not move. When it is making this noise I cannot turn the printer off with power switch I have to take out the power lead to turn it off. I cannot find the answer in the software for printer (Epson C44UX). win xp

Thanks I have looked at the links you sent checked for paper blockage and tried to clean printer as best as I can without dismantling it but the carridge still sticks at the left hand side and makes this loud clicking sound, do you think it has had its day?

Could be it's lost it's drive....either some teeth stripped from a gear / cog or, if belt-driven, it's slipped from a pulley ?

I think Wabadaw Sleeve has the answer.I think your printer has died.
