Power Supplies

As the power supply to the computer is controlled by the mother board, how can you test to see if it is working when the power supply is removed from the motherboard ??

in fact the motherboard is controlled by the power supply. Testing should be left to the qualified. The motherboard cannot work without the power supply. Seriously though unless you know what you are doing and how to test it is just not worth attempting it. A new power supply will cost a lot less than a new motherboard to replace.

Test a PSU not connected to a motherboard.

If you dont feel brave dont attempt.

Turn PSU switch off at back of PSU or at main's

Take a wire about 4 inches long

Bare both end's.

Take the motherboard connector

And locate pin 4 (Should be a green wire coming out)

The locate the black wire either one on either side. Place the wire that you cut into each hole where it connects to the mobo, take your hands away and now switch on PSU and if the PSU is ok, it should spin up.
