Hi We had a power cut at the weekend, the power went quickly on & off a couple of times, then went out for about 40 mins. The computer was on for the first couple of cuts, I then turned it off at the wall but didn't unplug it. There is a little green light flashing on the back but it wont power up at all.

Does it make any noise at all when you try and power on?

Do any fans start spinning (can you hear any whirring)?

Is it a desktop PC?

Unplug everything from the PC

make sue no discs or USb devices connected

remove mains plug

press and hold power button for 30 seconds

reconnect mains and retry to boot.

I suspect Failing HP PSU which may be fixed with a Hairdryer problem

Probably bad capacitors (you can't reflow solder with a hairdryer)

If it happens often get a new PSU.

Bargain PSUs can be had from eBay. Also connector adapter cables if the age and connectors are wrong.

But search for Your Model PSU first to check prices

(I didn't insert the eBay link. Have PCA got a deal?)

robin_x, thanks for the link I was thinking of a Summertime break.

Thanks. I've scanned with ADW and Malwarebytes and TDSS. (W10)

I am clean but it still shows a link. Spare laptop doesn't (W7)

No other redirect symptoms. Hey-ho. I'll leave it.

Making new thread about PCA. Good luck to OP and wait to hear their further thoughts on non-booting PC
