My flatmate has a problem. He has a 20gig partition that he uses for temporary storage only. 12gig of stuff in roughly 8 folders seems to have dissapeared. Well, it's still there, it's just that the folders have turned into files??? Anyone know how this could have happened and how to change them back?? when checking "properties" under "my computer" it says that 19.5gig has been used, but if you highlight the folders(that are still folders) and 'files'(that used to be folders) and select "properties" it says there is only 7.5gig worth....
He's using win XP Pro
We've scanned with Panda and Eazy Trust AV but none of them find anything (yes their virus definitions are both up to date). Have also run Adaware to no avail.
Any help and suggestions as to how to recover the folders and their contents would be most appreciated.
File recovery programs PCInspector click here and Restoration click here . Without knowing what caused the file corruption, it's difficult to make good suggestions, MicroWorld's Free Antivirus Toolkit click here and a² free click here could pick up anything that Panda and Eazy Trust may have missed.
Thank you Belatucadrus, we appreciate you taking the time to try and help. My flatmate swears blind that he did not install any new hardware or software after the last time he succesfully accessed the folders.
He does download a lot off the net though, which is what made me think of a virus. I've just never heard of folders being turned into files before......
