poss deleted system file, is this causing probs

some weeks ago while removing left behind files from uninstalled programmes I think I accidently deleted a system file since that day I get HPOSM "illegal operation" pop ups which occur most times I re-boot after system tray has loaded and several times during the day.
Last night I closed down as many programmes as poss and tried to defrag again, without success, but when I tried to restart zonealarm it gave me an error message and asked me to re-boot which I did.
After system tray had loaded I then got 2 error pop ups, the above one and HPTSKMGR ( can supply "details" of both if anyone wants to take a look.) the problem is now I can't load HP website to get help regardless of where I try to load it from.. EG start menu link, Google search link etc.. could the HPTSKMGR error have something to do with this or are any other members unable to get onto HP site. it has loaded since the HPOSM started happening. any ideas anyone.

Post the full error messages.

What HP or Compaq products are you using?

In the meantime, have a look at this - but don't apply the patch yet until someone has worked out what caused the problem.

click here for a similar probelm

  anniecat 12:31 05 May 2004

the link won't load ... just getting time-out page cannot be displayed

The links are working for me. May be a busy server.

  temp003 12:59 05 May 2004

Links should work, but if it's the HP site you can't get on, it may be related to the original problem (as you said you couldn't get on to HP website).

Can you not just open IE, then type www. hp. com and get to the site? Then on the site, search for hpslnmgr.

The other thing to try, as a temporary solution, is go into msconfig, Startup tab, and untick the HP related items, OK, restart, and see if the error messages disappear.

Another thing is disconnect hp scanner and printer. Uninstall all hp software, and reinstall. A bit drastic at this stage, try it when there's no other solution.

it's only HP site I can't get onto.. your other link and other web pages worked ok.. have tried IE browser for all my attempts including typing that address ... still won't work.. have emailed you with other explanation of lead up to this prob and can post the text on here if you think it would be helpful.
Can anyone email or post here telephone number for HP tech help
