POP3 mailserver address changing on retart

My friend has Talktalk. Everytime the pc is restarted he has to go into mail account (Outlook Express on XP Home) and correct the incoming mail server address. It is mail.talktalk.net but for some reason changes to 127.0.0.1. It will then not connect to server until corrected.

Any advice appreciated.

He probably has some anti spam software running that is doing it. 127.0.0.1 is the ip "local" address for any pc. As the software is on the pc it needs to look at itself to find the anti spam software that filters the incoming mail.

Does OE work if he leaves it alone?

Misread.

If he has anti spam software then disable / uninstall / reconfigure it. Suspect he has McAfee Security installed...

thanks. McAfee was installed and although Spam filter was disabled it was pointing at the account so I deleted the mail acct in McAfee. Now all seems to be working.
thanks again
