hi i have some sort of adware or spyware or virus on my comp and i dont know how to get rid of it.
i use windows xp with a firewall but somehow i still got infected.
i have tried scanning with various programmes such as adware se and spybot search and destroy but to no avail the problem persists.

the desktop background keeps changing itself to a yellow striped background with a box in the middle saying Danger:your pc is infected and it tells me to click to download a programme called adware punisher but when i have looked at info about this people say avoid it at all costs and dont download it.
how do i get rid of this problem please help

Download Ewido Anti-Malware trial version click here

When installing, under 'Additional Options' untick 'Install background guard' and 'Install scan via context menu'.

Launch Ewido by double clicking the icon on your desktop. The program will now go to the main screen. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update then click on Start Update.

Then select 'Settings'. Under the bottom section 'What to Scan?' make sure 'Scan every file' is ticked. Select 'OK' and you will return to scanning options. Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin. This scan can take quite a while to run.

While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose 'Clean' (or 'Delete' if 'Clean' is not an option). Then put a tick next to 'Perform action on all infections'. Doing this enables the scan to proceed automatically until its completion. Click OK.

I have found ewido to be very effective, try running it while in safe mode. The only other suggestion I have is to try smitrem, which is the only tool able to deal with spyaxe and its varients, which are desktop hijackers and exhibit the sort of behaviour you are getting.

Assuming that click here is your post, they are working on it. You will have to be patient. Nothing terrible is going to happen in the interim.
