I am so confused about hard disk(sata,sata2,esata)

Can you please kindly explain it to me?

I have pc and laptop with sata hard drive.

I want to buy sata2 hard disk, with external only back up.

-will sata2 hard disk work with my pc and my laptop(as i said i have only sata hard disk)?

-will it cause me any problem if i use sata2 hard disk?

-please do i have to choose hard disk sata2,and hard disk caddy sata2?

what is esata?

I hope to hear from you very soon, please

thank you so much for your help

I'm 90% sure that sata2 is backwards compatible to sata (serial advanced technology attachment) and has the same connector cable

eSATA = External serial advanced technology attachment eSATA is an extension to the Serial ATA standard that enables SATA drives to be attached externally. Prior to eSATA, external hard drives were connected via USB 2.0 or FireWire. While eSATA can provide faster transfer rates than USB or FireWire, it requires its own power connector

info about esata from webopedia (it web dictionary)

The only problem that you are likely to have is that your two computers may not have an eSATA external port for you to connect your SATA backup drive to. You will need to check before you purchase one. The port looks something like a HDMI port if you are familiar with them on TVs.
Hope this helps
