Please help - winlogin.exe

I did a virus scan on my laptop yesterday using AVG. It picked up a trojan which turned out to be the file winlogin.exe located in C:\WINDOWS\system32. It gave me the option to quarantine the file, which i did. The system then shut down and all i get when i try and reboot is a blue screen saying something like:
'STOP: c000021a fatal system error. F 0xc0000034.'

To solve this i think i just need to put winlogin.exe back in the relevant folder. But i cant get into windows to do it, all i get is the bluescreen. Im going to try and connect my laptop to my work computer tomorrow using a usb networking cable and maybe try and copy winlogin.exe from the work pc to my laptop.

Would this work?

Anybody got any other ideas?

Many thanks

Sorry - it should be winlogon.exe not winlogin.exe

Excellent! Thanks.

2 things though, How do i configure my computer to start from the CD-ROM drive?

And will doing this cause me to lose any files?

Many thanks

AS with any repair is a bit risky but you shouldn't loose any files hopefully. On my PC if I tap F8 during startup I'll get the temporary option to pick "boot from cd". Here is another link for repair click here .

Thanks very much, will try it after work.

Just one more query, can i use any xp pro disc? As i have a few in work.

Or does it have to be the one that came with my laptop?

If you have xp pro then yes. You can't use home version if pro is installed and vice versa.
