Hey Guys, hope you all had a great Christmas!

I have a really old PC and would like something to replace it. I want to get a laptop.

I've got my eye on the Sony VGN-FW21L which is on sale at £585(rrp £700).

The spec is as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5800 (2 GHz, 800 Mhz, 2 MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
3GB Memory
250GB hard drive
Blu-ray disc with DVD ReWriter
ATi Mobility Radeon HD3470 Graphics card
16.4" X Black LCD Screen with web cam
HDMI digital connectivity
Wireless (draft N) Enabled

Now I've seen the laptop and love how it looks, but before parting with my hard earned cash, I was hoping you guys can give me your opinion and any alternative laptop suggestions.

Hope you can help, thanks in advance!

I totally forgot to mention what my main uses are:

I mainly use my pc for internet, office work (eg word, excel, powerpoint), music, and watching videos.

On another note the Dell 1545 caught my eye at £399.

The spec:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 (2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
3GB Memory
250GB Hard Drive
15.6" Widescreen Screen
DVD/RW
Wireless Enabled

Please let me know your thoughts, cheers guys!

I just came across the Sony VGN-FW11M which is just a higher spec version of the VGN-FW21L.

The Sony VGN-FW11M is on sale at £699.97(rrp £799.99).

The spec:
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor(2.26 Ghz, 1055 Mhz, 3 MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
4 GB Memory
250 GB Hard disk drive
Blu Ray Drive
16.4 X Black widescreen display
Wireless (draft N) networking
Webcam with integrated microphone
ATi mobility radeon HD 3470

Now, this is really pushing my budget. Would it be worth the extra bit over the lower specced model?

I'm really stuck, plz can you guys help me out, just wanna make the right decision :)

Cheers again.

If you don't use editing for videos or use CAD type programs or up to date games then go for the cheapest.
If you want to do everything on your laptop then prepare to spend well over a grand.

Yeah I think the Sony VGN-FW12L at £585 makes more sense for my usage requirements.

Are there any other alternatives at this price range?

Cheers

That machine runs Vista Basic! Hardly suitable for someone who likes movies & music unless they`re prepared to acquire a third party Media Player IMHO.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

After much researching I ended up going for the Sony VGN-FW11M, even though it was more expensive, the new P8400 processor meant the laptop lasts almost 1hr more from full charge compared to the T8500.

I love it, its great, loads up quick, great screen, pretty light too for its size. Its more like a 15" just wider.
