Hi there, i'm admin on a forum. Its click here. Now i am trying to run a civilized forum but for months now some looser with now life has been creating hundreds of accounts, posting pornography on my forum and generally being a pain in the backside. I can delete his pornography posts but how can i stop him from making accounts!? we have an email activation feature but he must have hundreds of email addresses.....I keep trying to trap his IP address but i can never be online the same time as him!. Is there a way to see all of the IPs that have logged in a day?. This is seriously starting to annoy me. To see for yourself click here, then click descending to look at his accounts. Any help would be appreciated in catching this moron with no life. Thanks!

How do you verify new accounts?

  Crazygeorge3 23:06 13 Nov 2007

With an email activation, in the traditional forum fashion. If you look at this idiots email accounts each one is different. Thanks for the help btw

AN idea if I may suggest which I have seen on other sites is to put a 'delay ' mechanism in place on ALL new membership ;and create it so that members have to wait for their details to be thoroughly checked BY admin ; they can apply but they wait in a queue for as long as it takes to be activated BY admin;IF you suspect that it IS him again ,delete it from the list

I presume you have banned this individual from the forum ?

there are not that many registered users; how many Mods and admin do you have and how globally are they spread?

  Crazygeorge3 23:17 13 Nov 2007

We have around 3 admins and 5 or so Mods, but none of them seem to log in that much. Generally i am in control unfortunately. How can i put in this delay mechanism? that sounds like a brilliant idea

No chance of using the `obfuscated text` method? Can't remember the official name for it. I'm no expert on such matters but it appears that someone has written a script that can automatically generate users and respond to the bogus email addresses - if they're running a SMTP server it won't matter what the return addresses are as they can probably use a different `shown` and `actual` address. How on earth that works I have no idea, but surely one person can't spend his/her time just doing that?

this link and ideas might help?click here
which is what the individual seems to be doing ; spamming the forum

You could ask for a fee for new memberships, immediately refundable by postal order.

Or activate your members by post, sending them their password.

That way you would have the address of the member.....

Explain the reasoning on the membership rules page, I'm sure most legit members would go along with it.

your being spammed by a computer creating accounts

check out how achilles made it so you have to input a code onscreen to login and post

most of the other site,s i go to vet the peeps before they are sent a confirmation email wherby they have to use it to gain acces to the site
