Please Help! ATX 12v socket problem...

I built my first computer last weekend. And it started! Woohoo!!

However, the ATX 12v socket on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-880 UD3H ) has 8 pin holes. My power supply (Coolermaster GX-550) has a 4 + 4 lead. Seems a no brainer, 4+4 = 8 but I can only fit one of the 4 clusters in, in the top part of the socket. The other cluster physically won't fit due to the shape.
The pc seems to be running fine, I haven't done any benchmarking yet to find out if it's underperforming but I would like someone who knows more about this stuff to tell me whether I can continue using just the 4 out of 8 pins or whether this isn't right and I need to sort it out. If so, could you tell me how, is there an adapter I can buy?

Any help is much appreciated.
