Playing MP3's

Can anybody tell me if MP3’s need to be copied onto a CD in a certain format or using particular software. The problem is I have a portable MP3 player but it wont play MP3’s that have been burnt to a CD using the ‘Burn CD’ wizard in XP.

Thanks in advance.

An mp3 is changed to a .wav file in order to be burned as an audio cd. If you want to store the mp3 on a cd, and then play it in an mp3 player, it has to be burned as a data cd, not an audio one....

Hope that helps...

Thanks for that.

The MP3's are burned as a data cd using the Windows XP wizard so it must be a problem with the player.

I have just converted some WMA files to MP3’s using Active WMA Studio and they now work fine on the MP3 player. Does anyone know of any other programs that can be used to convert from WMA to MP3 that might be worth a try? Preferably a free one because I have already registered one program and the MP3’s on that doesn’t work!

I always use dbPower. You'll need the wma codec plugin as well.

Ignore my last comment. It appears that the MP3's just need to have a bit rate of 192 or more. Working fine now :-)

Thanks leo49

I'll give it a go because it will only play if there is just one track on the cd!

Don't you have a 'proper' burning software program rather than XP's effort?

Not sure why my previous message was posted 3 times!

The software I have is Media Player 9 but this will only burn cd's in audio format. Does anyone have a suggestion for software to burn MP3's to a cd?
