Sorry if this sounds a stupid question, we have gym equipment in the computer room and thinking of getting some keep fit DVDs, can I play them on a desktop, or are they for DVD players only?

If the computer has a DVD player you should be able to play CD's and DVD's

Yes you can run DVDs in a PC but Windows cannot play DVD videos "out-of-the-box".

For reasons related to Licensing, Windows doesn't have the necessary codecs installed, but you can download the *free* K-Lite Codec Pack from click here Select the "Standard" pack. This will enable you to play DVD videos, either in its own bundled Media Player or in Windows' own Media Player.
