Playing CDs as DVDs

I have recently started making short music videos ( about 200MBs) which take up very little room on a DVD so I started using CDs. These work fine in my computer's DVD and I presumed that they would be ok in standard players. I have just been told that nothing happens when they are inserted ( I don't have a separate DVD player myself to test things out).
I would be grateful if someone could explain why. Many thanks.

The Video is probably an avi file which will play on your computer but not a 'Home' DVD Player. You need to make a Video CD (VCD) To play on a Standalone player.

Is you have Burning software like Nero. It will do this for you.
