What is the size in millimetres (or similar) of 640 x 480 pixels. Tried Googling to no avail!

The Answer above is with PaintShopPro.

With Photoshop it's
640 x 480 pixels = 225.78 mm x 169.33 mm

Each photo package defines its own scale. The scale will be defined in pixels per centimetre. 72 or so pixels per centimeter is a usual scale, but in most good packages it can be altered. It's usually not important unless you print or need "enough" resolution for, say, a web page

Sorry everyone should have been more specific. I'm interested in how big a "picture" I would get on say Skype or similar when the webcams quote 640 x 480 pixels. I didn't realise there are variations depending on the program used, after all a pixel is a pixel.

So is there a definitive answer if it says a camera video resolution is 640 x 480 pixels?
