Pioneer 107d dvd faulty?

First of hello all, this is my first post.

I work in IT but this one has me really confused

I have a Pioneer 107d DVDRW drive, which has been very reliable. untill today.

I have burnt a backup of my system, performed a full format, (due to this fault) and tried to restore the files. The dvd cannot be seen by the drive, it loads all orginal disks but not backup discs.

I have tried two different o/s and the same fault occurs.

Now, I would normally be panicking and running around headless as my website is backed up on the dvd.

It wont read either DVD or CDR discs

Is it worth buying a new drive as a dual layer is only £31, or a cleaner is £16.99!!

basically my question is has anyonelse had these problems?

It loads all orginal disks but not backup discs.

this is due to the reflected light from writeable discs being less than from original discs. Things like the type of dye used in the disc can make a big difference. Always used the recommended media for you drive.

A good clean of the drive (£16.99 is too high a price for a cleaner maplins £4.99 dry £9.99 wet and dry) and the CD / DVD itself will probably work.

& haven't made the plunge yet, there's a Pioneer DVR-111D going for £18.99 (£24.26 delivered using the cheapest option) at SVP click here. G
