I have an old (P3 450) system which I want to give to a friend. The last time I started it 2 months ago all was well. This time I get 'found new hardware' PCI simple comms. controller. I have had the modem working before and also have the correct drivers on disk but it won't work now and refuses to accept the drivers. I do get the drivers to install in 'add new hardware' but when I query the modem or try to connect I get BSOD. Any ideas...? TIA.
Thanks Dan11 but have already tried that one. Just tried Erics suggestion and got same message..Windows unable to locate driver for this device. The file is called mdmess.inf and is definitely the correct one.The documentation that came with modem suggests using win 2000 built in driver which also doesn't work.
When I try the 'upgrade device driver wizard' in windows.. ESS has 3 entries in manufacturers columb but each entry only lists my modem. ie.. ESS ES56T PI Data fax voice modem. The documentation tells me to find data fax modem (not voice) but this isn't in list. (although i'm sure it has been in the list in the past..also why 3 entries in manufacturers list when in past i'm sure there was only one..)
Any idea how I can completely remove all evidence of this modem and start from scratch..? (physically remove hardware ..start up...remove evidence of ESS modem and start again) Does the registry keep info on modems (or any other hidden location in windows) ?
