Is it normal for a photo slideshow with transitions & music to take a good 2hours or more to burn to DVD? SVCD is obviously much quicker but burning to DVD using Magix Photos to CD/DVD seems painfully slow to me?

Any ideas?

it is the rendering that takes the time the actual burn process is usually pretty quick.
If you are filling the dvd 2hours is pretty normal

Rendered a photo slide in Ulead Video Studio to DVD recently, 59 minutes long it took almost 2- 1/2 hours, copying to CD a further 15 mins.

Nothing abnormal about your time.

I think I will stick to SVCD as the quality is as good as DVD & it takes about half the time to burn. The downside is that I can't have the slick interactive menu bits.

Cheers anyway.
