Performance increase of 64bit vrs 32bit win7 ?

I've just realised my laptop has a x64 sticker on it. Dell 1501 inspiron AMD Turion TL-50 x2 64 bit 2GB RAM (maxed).

I see 64 bit win 7 needs mnore RAM than 32 bit but I have enough for either.

My win7 should be in the post, but I'm now wondering 64 bit or 32 bit, as I could go with either.

Would there be a mrked performance advantage in going with 64 bit, and is there any reason why I shouldn't ? I gather that you pick which on install and it is a once only permanent selection, otherwise I would try both.

If you are considering running any legacy software or older games then you may have trouble installing them on a 64bit OS
