Pentax Optio 430 Digital Camera Fault

  swanson2 04:21 01 Feb 2005

Iam on holiday in California and my digital camera has decided to play up just as we have arrived at the Grand Canyon.

It is a Pentax Optio 430 - about 3 years old.

When I try to take a picture it switches on OK, the lens powers out but then it automatically powers down again.

I can review pictures that I have taken OK but am unable to take any fresh ones.

I have tried different batteries, CF cards etc to no avail.

It is as though it times out straight away and shuts off before I can use it.

It cost me about four hundred pounds three years ago after a recommendation in PCA.

Is it possible to repair it myself?

If not who would be a good repairer?

Or shouldI just bin it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Does it have any sort of reset option - reoving the battery overnight, for example, might reset it.

Just a thought...

Somehow I don't know about the viability of repair - the cost is likely to exceed the value of the camera.
