peer to peer networking

I have a small home networrk of 3 machines running peer to peer using Netgear MA111 USB adaptors. I also have 1mb desktops which is set to share with the other 2 machines. Obviously I have to have this host machine on if the other machines wish to use the internet.

I am willing to buy a router and set up a proper structured network but am also interested to find if there is a way that I can run the host on standby or minimum system resources to use less juice while the other pc's access the internet.

Any ideas folks

I may have picked you up wrong but if you configure your network through a router all client machines will have Internet access without the host machine needing to be switched on.
