Just reformatted old family computer as windows was playing up. Now trying to get the PCI modem working (which was working fine before the format) but windows refuses to make the PCI slot act as a COM port. Modem drivers won't install as the only available ports that windows is recognising are COM1 and LPT1. Running Windows 98 by the way.

thanks for the advice. after reading an old thread, it gave me the idea of adding a new COM port in the Add new hardware bit in control panel. Rebooting and reinstalling drivers with this seemed to do the trick. FINALLY!!
Thanks for the response.
