Hi all,
Due to some silly problems I had to format my C drive and reinstall XP. Because my disc is an upgrade disc M/Soft wouldnt allow the installation, so I installed Win 98 SE and then upgraded to XP, no problem. Or so I thought!!!
It boils down to not switching off whan XP clicks off. The monitor switches off but the PC oesn't.
I don't even get the message that it's now safe to switch off. Can anyone help please?

Check your power options in the BIOS

Just turn off at the pc's power button after windows has fully closed down.

I've already looked in BIOS, but truthfully I doubt that I know what I'm looking for. Everything looks OK.

I could just switch off at the power button, but not having done it for s few years I'd like to get back to being lazy.

I'm buying a new(refurbished) PC tomorrow and would like to have this one in good order for the young lady who wants.

Thanks for help.

Thanks a million. That worked nicely.
Control Panel > Power Options > APM tab > tick Enable Advanced Power Management.
