Which Win OS are you using?

Are you getting any disk activity lights?

Is the FDD light on when you hear the noises?

Does the noise sound as if it`s coming from the PSU?

My guess is the Power Supply is gone

Im using Win XP Pro with sp2, both the working light and the thinking light comes on and the fdd light comes on like when there is a floppdy disk in the drive but there is no floppy disk in there. The fan noises come from the case fans and the psu fans the most unusual noise comes from the fdd though.

Pull the Ribbon cable plug off the floppy then try it

just to let everyone know it was the motherboard and the smaller hdd had blown out. aparently the bios had blown on the hdd which caused it to die

Sorry to hear it`s an expesive fix. But at least you can put it down to experience and others here can benefit from the work you have done.
